DOWN THE AGES: SACRED HEART SCHOOL, ADRA

Sacred Heart School is named after the Heart of Jesus Christ.  The Heart of Jesus is the symbol of the sacrificial Love.  Which He accomplished to being humans closer to God.  Keeping in mind the welfare and upliftment of human race and at the request of the local influential population, on the need of having a good English Medium School in this locality, as there is none of its kind here, Rev. Fr. Michael Lourdusamy with just two teachers Ms. Monica Francis and Ms. Mary James and seventeen students started an English Medium School in the year 1990.  His efforts and determination helped the School grow year after year.

In August 1995, Rev. Fr. Richard Miranda took charges as the Principal.  He spent sleepless nights in his effort to get the affiliation.  His endeavors can never be forgotten.

And then in 2002, the great educationist Rev. Fr. Richard Miranda handed over charge to Rev. Fr. Alphonse.  Rev. Fr. Alphonse a lover of tiny tots, realized their value and pondering on the words of The Holy Bible “Let the Little children come to me and do not hinder them for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”  He introduced the Nursery class with well furnished classrooms for the tiny tots.

Keeping in mind the future of children, he blessed us with a splendid Computer Lab and few more class rooms. Blessing continued to pour in.

Rev. Fr. Richard Miranda’s and Rev. Fr. Alphonse’s insatiable dream and sleepless nights paid off – The School was given the “No Objection Certificate” from the Government of West Bengal and affiliation to the ICSE council, New Delhi.  We now have our own Examination Centre!  Surely it was a milestone in the history of our school.

In 2003, the School welcomed another highly talented administrator Rev. Fr. Edward J. Saldanha.  With his entrance we got to see his illustrious works in the manifestation of an additional school building.  Rev. Fr. Edward J. Saldanha left no stone unturned to reshape and remodel Sacred Heard School before being transferred to Loloya School, Kumardubi in 2008.  His departure saw Rev. Fr. S. Sahaya Thason make an entrance.  An interior – exterior designer with no ‘Ifs and ‘Buts’ in his dictionary.  He fulfilled Sacred Heart’s long cherished dream by introducing Cubs and Bulbuls, Scouts and Guides.  He kept to his promise when he gave to Sacred Heart Family a precious gift, the magnificent and enormous Auditorium with more classrooms and a K.G. Block.  His dream turned to reality.  Rev. Fr. S. Sahaya Thason envisages a lot more and a new Computer Lab and Science Practical Lab were constructed above the Jubilee Hall.

And then in 2014, the bridle of Sacred Heart School was taken by Rev. Fr. Puthumai Raj, who endeavored to furnish the incomplete work of Rev. Fr. Sahaya Thasan (Computer Lab and Science Labs).  During his tenure, he was the fortunate one to get the chance to celebrate the 25^th year, ‘Silver Jubilee’ of Sacred Heart School.  His efforts made it a grand success and while on the roadway to progress, he was transferred.

In 2016, Rev. Fr. Linus Kindo was welcomed by the Sacred Heartians.  His term in Adra was almost a struggle.  From the very onset he had taken the reigns, he had cherished a dream to get a piece of land for the expansion of Sacred Heart School, Adra.  Though he was embrased with various challenges and had spend sleepless night, yet at the break of day he emerged with a smile on his face.  The cream of his tenure was the success to register a good piece of land and initiate a well-planned School building construction at Vijayanagar, Sanka, which began on 4^th July, 2020.

Year 2020, the biggest challenge, ‘LOCKDOWN’ is when Rev. Fr. Linus handed over the office to Rev. Fr. Augustine Topno.  Rev. Fr. Augustine, serene and well experienced accepted the challenges of lockdown and working systematically on the online classes proved to be an efficient Principal.  The dream of a school building on ‘owned’ land that Rev. Fr. Linus had left unfinished was taken over by Rev. Fr. Augustine to fulfill.

The sapling which was planned by Rev. Fr. Michael Lourdusamy there decades ago has taken the form of gigantic tree which will compel every soul to say ‘Long Live Sacred Heart School!’
